Frequently asked questions

Please could you send me a catalogue and current price list for all your veneers & glues etc

We do not produce a price list because veneer prices change so frequently a price list would quickly become obsolete.

As for a catalogue most of what we have available can be seen on our website.

I restore furniture and am looking for a supplier of "thicker" veneers. At present I am looking for mahogany up to 3mm thick for use on a Georgian piece

We do supply thicker veneers 1.4-5mm & 2.5mm depending on species

I am requesting information on whether you could supply approximately 5 meters of steamed beech iron-on veneer

You may be thinking about Glue film which is an iron on film and applied to the article you wish to veneer using a very hot iron, after which you can iron on the veneer of your choice.

Just tried your glue film for the first time, I have a bubble in the middle of my veneer, if I heat it again will the glue melt again?

Yes glue film is easily reactivated when heat is applied

using a domestic iron at its hottest setting

do you have any instructions on how to use your glue film

see

Can you use glue film to apply veneer to a metallic surface

Personally I would favor a contact adhesive as opposed to glue film if I were trying this procedure,

glue film, like all wood glues, relies in the main by diffusing into the grain of both surfaces and therefore creating a bond.

PSA backed veneer [peel & stick] would be a better option

Thanks for getting back to me, would be great to see samples of the two veneers if possible to see what the difference is between them

Could you please send me a small sample of walnut veneer.

We do not send out samples as they are notoriously bad examples of the actual sheet unless taken from a section which shows an average pattern. This could involve removing a piece from the middle of a sheet to provide a sample - the wastage this would cause is obviously prohibitive. On our website you will find scanned pictures of various veneers and grain types.

These illustrate the best representation of the actual sheets from which they were taken and are as near true to colour as possible

I would like to order one sheet of the mahogany veneer as per attached e-mail. Would you please let me know the procedure and payment details

    &

Could you please tell me what size your veneer sheets are.

Sheets are generally between 10 & 12ft long Sheet widths vary on species required, e.g..

Yew  would not be over 250mm wide
whereas mahogany could be as wide as 600mm.

Could you please supply one sheet of Zebrano quartered

and one sheet of 2mm rotary cut Beech

Unfortunately all the above items are non stock items,

and therefore subject to a non stock items surcharge of £12.00 per order.

Can you ship veneers to the U S A

We can, but generally carriage costs outside the UK are prohibitive

Can you tell me how much you charge for carriage

To give you an idea on our carriage charges

we use first class mail or parcel post at cost plus £1.50 packaging

Do you sell finished veneers either wax polished or varnished

When using veneers all finishes are applied after they are fixed,

therefore any veneers that we supply would be in their raw state
i.e. would need finishing.
Burrs especially due to there undulating surface would be impossible
to polish until they are fixed to a flat substrate.
